A tribute
built from
the machine itself
"Escudero's tribute to Senna uses an exhaust designed for the McLaren MP4/6, the car that the Brazilian drove to title victory in 1991."
The exhaust system was designed for the 1991 McLaren MP4/6 — the Honda V12-powered car in which Ayrton Senna clinched his third and final Formula 1 World Championship title. Its provenance as a McLaren 1991 championship-era component is unquestioned.
What makes this Ayrton Senna sculpture extraordinary is not just what it is, but how it has been reimagined. Creator Geoffrey Escudero noticed that the V12 exhaust system's 12 pipes, arranged in their original configuration, bore a striking resemblance to the muscles and structure of a human chest. Strength, made visible in steel.
He chose to present the exhaust vertically — as Senna stood — at 230 centimetres. Eye level. Unmissable. The sculpture carries the name The Final Lap: a tribute to Senna's third and final championship season.
